Loss of mobile phone...
Make a note of the IMEI number of you mobile device ....
I never knew that some thing of this sort would happen to me. I lost my mobile phone on February 26,2007 while trying to board a barrackpore bound train from Sealdah. I had the much sought after Motorola V3i. I had all the numbers of my friends and people whom I admire. There were few improtant number of various consualtancies as well as people who are not so accoustomed to emails. I have already lodged an FIR at Sealdah GRPS. But hopes of recovering the phone seem slim. This incident has put a pause in my blogging activities. I donot know when I shall be able to start the same again. The support from the friends and family had been great and as the proverb says that you get to know your friends in crisis, I did realize that. Every body did say some thing or the other but save a few..... I am planning to buy a new one with the money that I will be getting from my provident fund, I can get to another company. Well this is for all those who might have lost their mobile phones or for every one who have a mobile.
In case you have lost your GSM Phone, please do the following
-
Call up the "Customer Care" helpline of your airtime provider and ask them to deactivate the SIM.
-
Call up the police. Submit them the IMEI number of your phone (which you should have noted before the theft). A police report is a must as the mobile phone is a transmitter and a reciever. Rest is unsaid.
The IMEI (International Mobile Equipment Identity) number, an unique code encrypted in each mobile, is now being used to trace a mobile anywhere in the country. Even if the SIM card (network) is changed, it can be traced. Whenever a phone logs onto a particular
network to make or receive calls, its IMEI number is emitted and this gets registered. In case of stolen phones, the service provider can pass on the information to the police. and they can trace the user through the SIM card. It is possible to even track down gangs running cellphone-stealing rackets.
How to get your IMEI number (International Mobile Equipment Identification ):
-
Press *#06# on your key pad and the number will be dispalyed. Make a good note of it.
-
The number for my Nokia 2100 is 351478606951252. I would suggest all those who read it to make a note of their IMEI numbers so that God forbids, if your mobile phone is stolen then you can refer the same to the police.
Look behind the battery of your phone. To confirm, type *#06# on the keypad. Note this IMEI number down some where you can locate if needed.
